HOCKEY
The name hockey is
thought to be derived from French hoquet meaning shepherd’s stave. On other

supposition derives by using cork bands called stoppers, instead of wooden
balls.

of 1600 in Scotland. In mid of 1700s, a game known as bandy was played on ice
on plains of eastern England. The game
spread to London and in 1850s it spread to eastern Canada where it was played
by British players. In Canada, Native Americans played a similar game in 19th

through flags placed about 8 feet apart in manner of rubber ball.
