LUDO
Ludo from Latin word is
a board game for two or four players, in which players race their four tokens
from start to end. Like many others board games, ludo also derived from Indian
game Pachisi.
HISTORY
Pachisi was formed in India
in 16th century. The original version is also explained in Indian Mahabharata
in which Shakuni uses cursed dice to beat Pandavas and last after losing
everything. Yudhisthira puts his wife Draupadi on stake and loses her. The
Pandavas gets all their belongings back, after Draupadi cursed the whole Kur
lineage, but stops at intervention of Gandhari.
It was also known as Chaupar
in earliest times in Indian subcontinent. In 1896, Pachisi was modified to use
a cubic dice and patented as “ludo” in England. The royal navy took this game
and developed into board game Uckers.
LUDOA BOARD
Two, three or four
players can play ludo without partnership. At start of this game, each player’s
four tokens are staged in player’s yard (a large corner area of board in player’s
color). When enable, they enter their tokens one per turn on their respective
starting area and proceed to race them clockwise along the track. When reaching
the square below their home column, a plyer continues by moving tokens to
finishing square. The rolls of single dice control the swiftness of tokens;
entry to finishing square requires a precise roll from player. They have to
bring all the tokens to finish wins the game. The other continues to play to
determine 2nd, 3rd game finishers.
GAMEPLAY
Each player rolls a dice;
the highest roller begins the game. Players take their turn in clockwise
manner. To enter the token into play from its yard to starting square, a player
requires to rolls the six. If player has no token in paly and rolls some other
than six then turn passes to next player.
Players must mov a
token according to dice value rolled up. Once players have more tokens in play,
they select a token and move it forward according to the track of board. If token
advances onto spot occupied by opponent’s token, then opposing token is
returned back to its respective home. This forces the opponent to roll up six
to take its token out of the yard and move it again. If token advances onto a
spot occupied by a token of same color, then it forms a “block”. If an opposing
token lands on same spot as block, then advancing token is returned back to its
respective home.
A player home column
squares are always safe, as no opponent may enter them. In a home column, a
player jumps over; after one rotation is done, player must enter the home and
roll exact number required to get each token onto home triangle.
Ludo is best source for
family to spend quality time together. As everybody is busy in their schedule,
board games can be a good way to spend time together inside a home.
