The education system in the united state

In the US, the education system is provided by public and private schools. The government set the educational standard and often requires stander tests for K-12 public schools. They also supervise state colleges and universities. Most of the funding comes from local government. In 2021, funding was 260 billion, compared to around 200 billion in past years.

The US has many top universities and Harvard is the most prestigious. The US also has the noblest prize winners in history, with 403 awards. In 2014 the economist intelligence unit rated US education as 14th best in the world.

School education:

The age when children start school in the United state between 5 and 7 years old. School is compulsory for students between 16 to 17 years old. Students who leave school without a high school diploma are considered dropouts. School years are called grades. Elementary education is followed by middle school education. Secondary education takes place in grades 7 to 12. There is no national structure or curriculum for education in the United state.

Higher education:

Traditional higher education in the US is through collage and universities. Universities offer programs at all degree levels while community-level and junior colleges associate degrees or diplomas. American universities come in different forms and serve different educational needs. Four years institutions may be public or private colleges and universities. Private institutions are privately funded and there is a wide variety in size, focus, and operations.

Reading and writing habits:

Libraries are important for education. Americans have more access to library books than many other countries and they borrow more than their peers in several other countries. Americans buy more books than Europeans. Teachers are frustrated with the lack of parental involvement in earlier grades. This is important for success in life and to keep children from going to prison.

Issues in education:

The different perspectives on affirmative action in universities. While some argue that it benefits middle and upper-class non-Asian people of color at the expense of lower-class European Americans and Asian Americans others have pointed out that it has led to the overrepresentation of recent black immigrants and their children at the expanse of the historic African American community.
