The education system in the chain
China has the
largest education system in the world. About 11.93 million students took the
National Higher Education Entrance Examination in 2022. Investment in education
accounts for about 4% of the total GDP in China. The Education Modernization
2035 plan aims to develop the education sector from “capacity” to “quality”.
Teachers
developing:
China has a
good system for developing teachers. Teaching is a respected profession in
China. Teachers have strong preparation in their subject matter and prospective
teachers spend time observing experienced teachers. Once teachers are employed
in the school, there is a system of induction and continuous professional
development.
Primary school:
China's primary
schools have become better over time. In 1985, most children attended primary
school. Primary schools are free and close to where children live. Parents pay
a small fee for books and other expenses like food and transportation. Poor
families receive help.
Families were
responsible for children with severe learning problems and disabilities. There
were special schools for blind and deaf children, but only a few children could
go to those schools.
Secondary
school:
Secondary
education in China has had a complicated history. In the 1960s, there were two
types of schools: academic schools and technical schools. During the Cultural
Revolution, there were problems with education quality, and technical schools
were closed. In the late 1970s, technical schools reopened, and their
enrolments increased. By 1986, secondary education became part of the nine-year
compulsory education law.
High school:
In China, higher
education institutions were given more responsibility to run schools that
covered different regions and subjects. Universities were allowed to use their
money as they wanted and to use the money they got from students for their own
development. They could also use the money for things like bonuses and welfare.
